Starting 2014 with Turn of the 20th Century Style

January 10, 2014  •  1 Comment

Did you miss us?  Thanks to health issues and just general life stuff, we dropped the ball on posting new blogs.  We're going to try to do better in this new year.

Thought I would share this beautiful camera with all of you.

It is the centerpiece of a complete plate camera kit with tripod, developing trays, plate holders, printing frames, candle or gas safe light, etc etc etc. I took this kit out and set up the camera so that I could photograph it. I was sooo impressed. The shutter, which functions something like a window shade, works! The ground glass back, which measures 4.75" x 6.5", is intact. The tripod is a marvel of simple engineering in the way each leg erects and attaches to the camera base. I'm guessing on age in placing this at the turn of the century or late 1800s. Check out these accessories:

The fact that the mechanical shutter still works after all this time and disuse absolutely blows my mind!

This piece and other vintage/antique photographica are available at my shop, Past and Present.

Enjoy!

Rebecca
